Discover the Hidden World After Dark
When the sun sets over the Western Ghats, the forests begin to change.
Frogs emerge from hidden streams, geckos appear on moss-covered trees, bioluminescent fungi glow beneath the canopy, and some of India’s most remarkable reptiles quietly begin their nightly routines.
Led by experienced naturalists and herpetologists, our Herping Night Trail is a slow, interpretive walk through the rainforest in search of its nocturnal wildlife. Rather than simply spotting species, you’ll learn about their behaviour, ecology and the remarkable adaptations that allow them to thrive after dark.
Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, photographer or simply curious about the natural world, this experience offers a rare opportunity to witness a side of the Western Ghats that most visitors never see.
Most of us grow up seeing the wild as something to fear.
A rustle in the leaves. A snake on the trail. The sound of frogs after dark. Our instinct is often to step back because we don’t understand what we’re looking at.
This trail helps bridge that gap.
As you learn to read the forest, identify its inhabitants and understand their behaviour, fear gradually gives way to awareness. You begin to realise that every creature has a role to play, and that most wildlife wants nothing more than to be left undisturbed.
Long after the walk ends, you’ll carry something more valuable than photographs—a new way of seeing the natural world.
Herping is the practice of observing reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitat, but it’s about far more than spotting snakes or frogs. It’s about learning to read the forest.
As you begin to understand where animals live, why they behave the way they do, and the role they play in the ecosystem, the forest starts to make sense. Fear is replaced by curiosity. Myths give way to understanding. What once felt intimidating becomes deeply fascinating.
This knowledge stays with you long after the trail ends. Whether you’re trekking through the Himalayas, camping in the Sahyadris, or simply walking through a village after the rains, you’ll move through nature with greater awareness, confidence and respect.
Herping isn’t just a night walk—it’s an introduction to the hidden language of the wild.
