I had an amazing stay at Shanti Darshan Bed & Breakfast. It’s truly a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, far away from the chaos of the city. The entire place has a charming old-school vibe, almost like a classic London countryside stay, which makes the experience even more unique and relaxing. The atmosphere is incredibly rejuvenating — perfect if you just want to disconnect and unwind. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious and felt very homely. If you’re looking for a calm, nature-filled getaway with great hospitality and a nostalgic touch, this place is definitely worth visiting.
We had been to this place in the last week. We are so glad that we found a place like Shanti Darshan and a host like Katyayani to call home for the week we spent there. Shanti Darshan is a place not too far from the hustle and bustle of the main village but you can still enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet. The rooms, bathroom and lounge area are very clean, the service is prompt and the host (and assorted furry friends) are super friendly! The food is divine and diverse, blending local ingredients with a global taste. We would definitely love to visit this place again and again!
Here’s a polished, warm, **short-but-rich** review that includes everything you wanted, without sounding overdone: --- Our stay at Shantidarshan Homestay, Amboli from 3rd Feb to 5th Feb, during our wedding anniversary, was nothing short of magical. The moment we arrived, the warmth and hospitality made us extend our stay without a second thought. The location is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and serene. The property itself easily matches the comfort and coziness of a five-star hotel, yet feels like a true home. The rooms are tastefully and aesthetically decorated, and the bathrooms were spotlessly clean. Katyayani, a true five-star chef, pampered us with delicious home-cooked food and even surprised us with cupcakes and jams made from fruits grown in their own garden—a gesture that touched our hearts. The garden is exceptionally well maintained, with hundreds of varieties of flowers and plants—it’s a place you must spend time in. What makes this place unique is its calm, shrine-like atmosphere—no TV, but thousands of books to read, making it perfect for anyone looking to truly unwind. The property is owned by Captain Shina, a retired Army medical officer, and the discipline, care, and warmth reflect beautifully in every corner. Add to this the friendly furry doggos, cozy vibes, stunning views, and soulful hospitality—and you have a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Just book it and chillax. No second thoughts.
The host Katya makes you feel at home as soon as you arrive, and she is an excellent chef, I ate all my meals on site as I couldn't get enough. Plus the other food establishments in the area didn't look trustworthy. The room was immaculate with an incredible mountain view and sunrise. The gardens and lounge area are a wonder to relax in. Would recommend to anyone.

Read MoreAmboli, nestled in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, is one of the most diverse and ecologically rich regions in India. Known for its misty landscapes, lush greenery, and vibrant wildlife, Amboli is a haven for nature lovers, especially herping enthusiasts. “Herping” refers to the observation and study of reptiles and amphibians, and Amboli offers some of the best opportunities for such an experience in India.
Amboli is part of the Sahyadri Range, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its exceptional biodiversity. The dense forests, cool climate, and proximity to rivers and wetlands create the perfect habitat for a wide range of amphibians and reptiles, including many species endemic to the Western Ghats.
For those interested in herping, Amboli is a treasure trove of species such as frogs, lizards, snakes, and other reptiles. These creatures are often hidden away, and exploring Amboli’s diverse ecosystems allows one to witness these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.
KTC can play a significant role in guiding nature enthusiasts through the intricate trails and dense forests of Amboli to witness the beauty of wildlife and conduct herping expeditions. Here’s how KTC can enhance the herping experience:
KTC can organize guided herping treks where knowledgeable naturalists and herpetologists accompany participants. These guides have an intimate understanding of Amboli’s flora and fauna, ensuring that trekkers are led to the best spots to observe various species without disturbing their natural habitat. The guides can help identify different reptiles and amphibians, explaining their behavior, habitats, and the threats they face.
Many of the amphibians and reptiles in Amboli are nocturnal, making night treks an essential part of the herping experience. KTC can offer special night trails, where participants explore the forests after dark, equipped with torches and the expertise of a guide. Amboli is home to rare species like the Amboli Toad and the Malabar Pit Viper, which are most active at night.
KTC can provide a platform for education on the conservation of reptiles and amphibians. Many of the species in Amboli are threatened due to habitat loss and climate change. KTC’s guided tours can include informative sessions about the importance of these creatures in maintaining ecological balance, and how preserving Amboli’s forests is crucial for their survival.
For wildlife photographers, KTC can organize special photography treks, where enthusiasts get a chance to capture these elusive creatures in their natural environment. These expeditions can include photography workshops, where KTC’s expert photographers guide participants on how to photograph amphibians and reptiles, ensuring both the safety of the wildlife and the quality of the images.
